MONTREAL — In a computer lab at McGill University's McConnell Engineering building, doctoral student Carmen Au patches digital images together to create a panoramic mosaic from a random smattering of snapshots. Environmental biologist Louise Henault Ethier's adventure in vermicomposting has five million worms devouring garbage in the rooftop greenhouse of Concordia University's Henry F. Hall building. Olivia Chiu, a master's student in robotics, is just home from a research trip to McGill's marine research lab in Barbados, where she's trying to teach a flipper-powered underwater robot to navigate through coral reefs without a human directing its every paddle. When university administrators and professors talk about the gender revolution taking place on campus these days, they aren't simply struck by the quantity of female students....

LINWOOD — When a teacher gets a master's degree, the primary concern of school officials is how that degree will help students. In Linwood, the students didn't even have to wait for the teachers to get their degrees. A dozen projects developed by teachers in the Master of Arts in Instructional Technology, or MAIT, program at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey already have been used in class. The process was easy because the teachers never left Linwood. For the past three years, teachers stayed late at the Belhaven School, where the courses were brought to them. Developed with Belhaven School Principal Frank Rudnesky and Superintendent Thomas Baruffi, the goal of the program was to encourage more teachers to get their master's degrees, while assuring that what they learned was applied in the classroom....

Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno returns to Baghdad with perhaps the most difficult job in the U.S. military -- to stop Iraq's brutal insurgency and help pave the way for Iraqi troops to take over their country's security. Previously, he served as commander of multinational troops in northern Iraq. He recently sat down with CNN to talk about his impression of the current situation. Mr Charnchai transferred DSI chief Pol Gen Sombat Amornwiwat to the post of deputy justice permanent secretary on Nov 3, in what was seen as a bid for better progress in the criminal investigation into the disappearance of missing human rights lawyer Somchai Neelaphaijit. On Nov 14, the minister secured cabinet approval for Pol Gen Sombat to be replaced by Sunai Mano-maiudom, a chief judge at the appeals court. ''I intend to reduce the number of police staff and will recruit lawyers with trial experience and students with Master's degrees in law to work at the DSI instead,'' Mr Charnchai said in an interview with the Bangkok Post....
